JOB OVERVIEW:

AMEND, LLC is hiring a motivated Entry-Level Designer / Carpenter to join our team. This is a hybrid position for someone who wants to build a career that bridges design and hands-on construction. You’ll spend some weeks primarily at the computer producing design and drawing sets, and other weeks primarily in the field supporting carpentry and high-performance building work—depending on project phase and team needs.

This role is ideal for new graduates who want real-world experience translating design intent into durable, buildable details. Training and mentorship are provided by our Construction Manager and the AMEND Team.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Design & Documentation (Office + Remote/On-Site as needed)

• Create 2D and 3D models to support project design and planning

• Assist with schematic design, design development, and construction details

• Help prepare client presentations (graphics, drawings, model views, layouts)

• Support internal coordination between design intent and field execution (details, sequencing, constructability)

Field Carpentry (Job Sites Throughout Greater Bangor)

• Assist with rough and finish carpentry tasks including: Framing, Siding, Window and door installation, Trim / finish carpentry, Air sealing and insulation detailing (high-performance building techniques)

• Work under the direction of the Construction Manager to complete project tasks safely and correctly

• Support job site setup, cleanup, material organization, and protection of finished work

• Safely operate hand and power tools (training provided)
  

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Design or a related program that includes vector/CAD modeling

• 6 months to 1 year of experience in construction, carpentry, or related work (or completion of trade school/apprenticeship).

• Basic knowledge of hand and power tools (e.g., drills, saws, nail guns).

• Ability to read basic measurements and use a tape measure accurately

• Strong communication, reliability, and willingness to take direction

• Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation (travel up to ~1 hour)

• SketchUp experience (preferred)

• Familiarity with Revit, Rhino, and/or Adobe (plus)

• Interest in high-performance construction practices and building science

• This is a full-time position, typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (40 hours/week), with work taking place at various job sites throughout the greater Bangor, ME area with travel up to an hour away. Outdoor work in changing weather conditions is part of the role. We understand that life happens outside of work too. AMEND, LLC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Carpenter / Journeyman Carpenter to join our team. This role is ideal for a well-rounded professional with deep knowledge of rough and finish carpentry, tiling systems, and an interest in high-performance building practices. The ideal candidate takes pride in their craftsmanship, works independently with minimal supervision, and is comfortable mentoring junior team members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Execute rough and finish carpentry tasks, including framing, stair construction, custom trim, cabinetry, and built-ins.

• Lead or contribute to siding, window, and door installations with a focus on precision, weather tightness and airtightness.

• Interpret and work from architectural drawings, blueprints, scopes of work, and project specs.

• Mentor and support junior carpenters and laborers, fostering skill growth and job site efficiency.

• Collaborate with project managers to ensure project milestones, timelines, and quality standards are met.

• Construct decks, porches, and exterior architectural features with a strong emphasis on durability and aesthetics.

• Implement advanced building techniques in high-performance and energy-efficient construction.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA and company protocols.

• Communicate proactively to solve problems and ensure a smooth project flow.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

• 5+ years of professional carpentry experience, preferably with journeyman-level training or equivalent.

• Mastery of rough and finish carpentry, including complex layouts, angles, and installations.

• Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications independently.

• Willingness to explore and share new methods and materials.

• Advanced proficiency with carpentry tools, layout systems, and materials (wood, PVC, cement board, metal, etc.).

• Proven ability to manage job site productivity and mentor junior staff.

• Understanding of high-performance building systems (air sealing, thermal breaks, water management, key passive house concepts, etc.).

• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
